Your business has an opportunity to provide a Happy Halloween for the children of our community. Because of the overwhelming success of the traditional “Downtown Vinton Trick or Treat” as a public relations event, the Town of Vinton, in cooperation with the Vinton Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, will repeat it again this year on Wednesday, October 31st from 3:00-5:30 p.m. We had a number of working parents ask if we could consider having the event until 5:30 p.m. Please prepare to hand out treats until 5:30 p.m. if it all possible.

Please call or leave a message for Mary Beth Layman at 983-0613 or mblayman@vintonva.gov by October 12 to confirm your participation in the event. A pumpkin poster will be provided for you to post on your door or window. Businesses not residing in the downtown Vinton business area may reserve space in front of the Vinton Municipal Building by calling or emailing Mary Beth Layman in advance.

For safety reasons we will be closing the following streets: Pollard St. from Washington Ave. to Jefferson St;  Lee Ave. from Maple St. to Walnut Ave.; Walnut Ave. from Lee Ave. to Jackson Ave.; Jackson Ave. from Maple St. to Walnut Ave., Cleveland Ave. from Maple St. to Pollard St.  Limited access will be available from Walnut Ave. for deliveries, post office and bank. Streets will be blocked a few minutes prior to 3:30 p.m. Also note the ending time for the event will be 5:30 p.m.

Recommended Suggestions:
-Provide packages candy, gum, or others suitable items such a pencils, crayons, or novelty items for approximately 2000 children (businesses along Lee Ave. and Pollard St. receive a large number of visitors, businesses adjacent to these streets can base their estimates on the number of visitors from the previous year).
-Allow a pumpkin poster to be placed in a window or on the door so children will know where to receive treats.
-Have fun! Dress in costume and decorate your windows or door. A judge will be looking for the best Halloween decorations and/or costumes for first, second or third place.
-Political campaigns are asked not to put stickers on the children. Brochures may be handed to the adults only. Also please do not impede pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk. The children should be able to walk freely and safely on the sidewalks. A space will be assigned for political candidates/campaigns. Remember the event is for the children!
-This event offers you the opportunity to advertise your business through flyers, business cards, coupons or other marketing possibilities that you can share with the adults.
